Inner Bank MCZ

Site Overview

Inner Bank MCZ was designated in May 2019 and is located approximately 10km south of Dungeness, extending south west across the 12nm territorial seas limit to waters south of Hastings in the English Channel region. The site covers an area of 199km with only a very small section lying within the Kent and Essex IFCA district. Inner Bank MCZ provides protection to a variety of subtidal sediments ranging from fine sands to coarser sediments. The variation in seabed habitat supports a wide range of species, including bivalve molluscs such as the native oyster, sea cucumbers, starfish, worms, sea firs and anemones.
