New byelaw - Margate and Long Sands SCI

The Bottom Towed Fishing Gear (Prohibited Areas) Byelaw has been updated. From 1 February 2018 the prohibited areas within this byelaw now include Pan Sand Hole, Knob Channel and East Margate Sands within the Margate and Long Sands SCI. Other areas where bottom towed fishing gear is prohibited remain as Thanet Coast SAC, Essex Estuaries SAC, Folkestone Pomerania MCZ . For a copy of the byelaw click here This Byelaw prohibits the use of bottom towed fishing gear in these specified areas to protect the designated features of those areas and therefore prevent damage to or deterioration of those sites.
